Bathroom Ventilation FAQs

What is a CFM?

CFM stands for cubic feet per minute and is the measurement unit for exhausting airflow. The higher the CFM- the more airflow the bathroom will have and can move and exhaust.

How many CFMs do I need?

AeroPure Fans has a square footage calculator available to assist our customers in answering this question.

You can also use the following calculations:

  • For an 8 ft ceiling take the square footage of the room and multiply by 1.1
  • (ex. 10’ x 10’ room with 8’ ceilings = 10’ x 10’ x 1.1 = 110 CFM’s)
  • For anything over 9 ft, take the height of the ceiling and multiply by .13

**Both calculations will give you the minimum amount of CFM’s needed**

What is a sone, and how is it measured?

A sone is the measurement of sound and helps determine the noise and loudness of a unit. The lower the sone, the more comfortable the listening environment. AeroPure Bathroom Fans are known for the low sones and noise level for operation.

Who should install my Aero Pure Exhaust Fan?

Aero Pure Fans must be installed by a licensed electrician.

What kind of duct should I use to install my Aero Pure bathroom fan?

The ducting from the fan to the outside of the building has a strong effect on the airflow, noise, and energy use of the fan. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing possible for best performance, and avoid installing the fan with smaller ducts than recommended. Insulation around the ducts can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated airflow. An insulated flexible duct is recommended for the quietest possible installation. If a rigid duct is used, a short (1-3 feet) section of the insulated flexible duct will ensure quiet operation.

Do you have models that are water rated for over the shower?

Yes, any model that have ETL listed meaning that it is ETL/cETL listed for installation over tub/shower enclosure when used with CFCI circuit wiring.

Can I use my AeroPure fan in a steam shower?

No. Since these are normally sealed chambers, a vacuum will be created.

Can my Aero Pure fan be surrounded by insulation?

Yes, Aero Pure Bathroom Fans are ETL/cETL listed for use in insulated ceilings (Type I.C.). Loose-fill or batt insulation can be placed directly over the fan housing in the attic. The fans and fan/light combination units do not create excessive heat which is a common problem with recessed light fixtures or some competitors′ fan / light combinations. Our efficient, cool-running motors and our LED lighting units do not create enough ambient heat to be subjected to these limitations.

Do Aero Pure Fans have a warranty?

Yes, Aero Pure Fans bathrooms fans and all parts are under warranty for six years(72months) from the original purchase date. Please note that the ceramic heat lamp bulbs are under warranty for four years from the original purchase date and have a 10,000-hour life. Warranty is only offered to the original purchaser and does not cover the cost of repair or replacement. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty claims.

What is the difference between AC and DC Motor?

There are many pros with both AC and DC motor. An AC motor stands for alternating current fans whereas, the DC is a direct current fan. You can discuss with your licensed electrician professional which is the best fit for your project.

If there is a window in a bathroom, is it necessary to install a ventilation fan?

Windows may be a bonus to airing your bathroom out, but they are not a solution for comfortable indoor air quality. An open window may be a source of humidity, cold or hot air, dust, or noise.

Is a fan's performance and cost-efficiency affected by its installation?

Yes! Even the very best fans will operate poorly if installed improperly. To ensure quiet cost-efficient operation use smooth duct with as few bends, elbows, and angles as possible.

Does a fan need to be ducted outdoors?

Yes! Bathroom ventilation fans must be vented outdoors. If a fan is vented into the attic or ceiling joists warm moist air may compromise the structural integrity of the house and encourage mold and mildew growth.

Will AeroPure Fans work in wall-mount applications?

Some Aero Pure bathroom ventilation fans may be wall-mounted. See the specifications for specific models. Improper installation may affect fan life, safety and your warranty.

What does "static pressure" mean?

Static pressure is the measurement of airflow resistance as it is pushed through ductwork which reduces the effectiveness of the fan. Learn more on the Home Ventilating Institute website www.hvi.org.

How long should a bath fan run after a shower is used?

The Home Ventilating Institute recommends that a fan should be left on for 20 minutes more to clear humidity adequately and to ensure moisture and condensation in the fan body or ducting is minimized.

How do I clean my Aero Pure bathroom exhaust fan?

Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. If the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel. For quiet and efficient operation, long life, and attractive appearance, lower or remove grille and vacuum interior of unit with the dusting brush attachment. To clean the grill, don’t put it into hot water. Use non-abrasive kitchen detergent then wipe dry with a clean cloth. The grille should be dry after cleaning before reattaching to the fan motor. Using a cloth dampened with kitchen detergent remove any dirt from the fan body then wipe dry with a clean cloth. The motor is permanently lubricated and never needs oiling. Never use gasoline, benzene, thinner, or any other such chemical for cleaning the ventilating fan. Do not immerse the motor in water when cleaning. Do not soak resin parts in water over 140°F (60°C).

Ventilation FAQs

If there's a window in a bathroom, is it necessary to install a ventilation fan?

Windows may be a bonus to airing your bathroom out, but they are not a solution for comfortable indoor air quality.

An open window may be a source for humidity, cold or hot air, dust, noise, and may even be a security risk.

Do more powerful fans cost more to operate?

There are ventilation fans available with very efficient motors that allow even powerful fans to operate quietly and cost effectively.

Is a fan’s performance and cost-efficiency affected by its installation?

Yes! Even the very best fans will operate poorly if installed improperly. To ensure quiet cost efficient operation use smooth duct with as few bends, elbows, and angles as possible.

Does a fan need to be ducted outdoors?

Yes! Bathroom ventilation fans must be vented outdoors. If a fan is vented into the attic or ceiling joists warm moist air may compromise the structural integrity of the house and encourage mold and mildew growth.

Learn more about proper bathroom fan installation.

Do powerful fans always have to be loud?

Technological improvements in ventilation fan design have significantly REDUCED fan noise.

Look for products with HVI-certified sound ratings of 1.0 sones or less for super quiet ventilation.

Heater FAQs

Can I install a heater over the shower or tub?

No, our heaters are not UL listed and cannot be installed over the shower or tub. They need to be installed at least three feet away from the shower as they are not applicable for wet application.

Can you run the exhaust fan separate from the heat lights?

Yes, the fan, light, and heat bulbs can be wired separately on different switches. Our A515 comes with a three-function switch and our A716 comes with a four-function switch.

Do the heat bulbs come with the heater and are they replaceable?

Yes, the heat bulbs do come with the unit when you purchase. These are 270-watt infrared bulbs, they are replaceable if they burn out and are under warranty for four years. However, you cannot replace these heat bulbs with other bulbs that are not manufactured by AeroPure Fans.

How long should I run my heater?

AeroPure’s combination ventilation fan with heat and light delivers immediate warmth when you step out of the shower while quietly clearing the bathroom of excess moisture. Our heaters are secondary heat sources so 30-40 minutes is adequate to warm a bathroom. If installing in a larger bathroom, we recommend an additional bathroom exhaust fan to add CFMS.

Humidity FAQs

Does the humidity sensor function on a timer?

We do carry models that function with a timer setting on the humidity sensor. This can be adjusted from 5 to 60 minutes(factory-setat about 20 minutes). This“T”controls the length of time that the fan remains ON after the sensor has stopped sensing a rise in humidity and the humidity level is below the user-adjustable set-point.

Does my humidity sensor need to be on a switch?

This depends on the model; we have models that must have a switch for the humidity sensor due to the smart technology and PCB controller in the unit. We also have units with humidity sensors that can be hardwired and function without a switch.

How does the humidity sensor operate?

The humidity-sensing fan uses a sophisticated humidity sensor that responds to:(a)rapid to moderate(user-adjustable)increases in humidity or(b)humidity above a user-adjustable set-point(50%-100%relative humidity). The humidity sensor may occasionally turn the fan ON when environmental conditions change. If the fan continuously responds to changing environmental conditions,“H”(means“humidity”)adjustment may be required. This figure is factory-set for about 75% RH. Please see operation section in installation manual for more information.

Can I use a dimmer switch on the humidity sensor?

No, the humidity control and fan cannot be used on a dimmable switch to operate. However, the humidity control and fan and light can be operated separately.

Lighting FAQs

Do you have an option available that is dimmable?

Yes, we have several in our line.

Are the lights replaceable in the unit?

We have models that have different light options for example, our AP series that has a 3000K Led module or a 4000K Led module. These are under warranty for six-years. Our fans with Led modules are embedded as part of the grill however, it is held in by four screws and therefore, is replaceable.

Where can I purchase replacement bulbs for my heater?

You can purchase the 270-watt heat bulbs directly on our website.

What types of bulbs can go in my recessed ventilation fan?

Accepts any of the following bulbs: 75W(max),PAR30, PAR30L, BR30 14W(max) LED.

Recessed Lighting FAQs

Can I install the recessed bathroom fan light in the shower?

Yes, the recessed bathroom fan is rated for wet application. ETL listed for wet application with approval with GFCI. If you plan to install your recessed lighting bathroom ventilation fan in the shower, we recommend purchasing the optional lens cover to help protect the unit from water entering the unit. This fan is a rust-proof metal steel fan body.

Can my recessed bathroom fan have humidity?

Yes, we do offer this lighting ventilation unit with the humidity sensor feature. This is available in 80 or 100 CFM and has different style options as well. The style meets the functionality with this fan-in-a-can option. The quiet motor and recessed light create a practical and efficient solution to all your light and ventilation needs.

Is the trim ring flush with the ceiling?

Yes, the round and/or square trim rings mount flush to the ceiling. The ventilation happens within the trim.
